The Search for that First Associate Contract

We’re experiencing unprecedented demand for dentists from our clients across the UK at the moment. Practices with fixed NHS targets in particular are under increasing pressure to recruit and retain dentists in order to deliver their contracts with the large corporate players currently advertising several hundred Associate openings among them.

Historically it is fair to say that Blue Sky People has marketed to Undergraduate, DF1 & DF2 dentists with a view to building our brand for the long term. Rather than marketing job opportunities to foundation dentists, we have generally focused our attention on recruiting more experienced dentists and specialists for our clients.

We pride ourselves on looking after people’s careers and work with some of the more progressive practices out there, offering their teams excellent working environments as well as ongoing support to continue their clinical and professional career development.

We frequently find that young dentists enter the jobs market with a variety of concerns, but specifically around their ability to deliver contracts of say 6000-7000 UDA’s while still trying to improve their endodontic and oral surgery skill set.

Having worked with and recruited for over 2000 practices UK wide over the last 13 years, we understand which practices are able to offer the ongoing support and encouragement that young dentists may need – including extra training and peer to peer support as well as being able to offer you the time you need to be able to build up from delivering 3000-4000 UDA’s to a more substantial 6000 + UDA contract.

A number of our clients look to invest time in developing your understanding of operating in a modern mixed NHS/Private setting, building your long term confidence in working with modern materials as well as identifying suitable cases for referral to experienced Specialist colleagues.

While it is sometimes easy to be swayed by modern, well decorated practice surroundings with the latest digital suites, it is often worth digging beneath the surface to understand what practical support colleagues are able to offer. After all, if they’re seeing 25-30 patients a day, struggling to deliver 7500 – 8000 UDA’s themselves, how much time have they really got to help you when you need?

If you want to have a conversation about your career and how we can help you find a great practice to start your career, we’d love to hear from you. And as an added incentive, if Blue Sky People is successful in placing you with one of our clients, we’ll give you £500 towards a set of Techne Loupes from Optident to get you started!
